The Root Causes of Addiction
1. Genetics: If your parents had an addiction, you are at a higher risk of suffering from an addiction, too. Even if your parents were not addicted, if they frequently abused drugs or alcohol in front of you, they normalized that behaviour, which can ultimately affect the way their kids view drugs and Alcohol. About 50-60 percent of addiction is due to genetic factors.

2. Peer pressure: Many people begin experimenting with alcohol or various drugs because their social circle or friends do. Because the experimentation has a pleasurable effect, they continue doing it, and over time, they develop an addiction.

3. A history of trauma: Trauma can also refer to more personal experiences, such as a serious car accident, a divorce or a sexual assault. Survivors of child abuse, molestation, intimate partner violence and other types of abuse can be similarly traumatized. A history of trauma has been linked to not just a higher risk of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress syndrome, and suicidal ideation but also addictive behaviours.

4. Mental health problems: A person who is struggling with depression, anxiety or other mental health problems might turn to drugs or alcohol to ease their symptoms. This is called self-medication, and while it may offer the promise of relief, that relief is only temporary. As their bodies adapt to the dopamine, they will need more and more of the substance to achieve the same results.
The Root Causes of Addiction

Symptoms of Addiction:

1. Psychological: Addicts often participate in high-risk behaviours to support their addiction. Their mental health suffers because addiction worsens existing mental health disorders or causes new ones. Suicide rates are high among addicts.

2. Physical: Increased tolerance and dependency are common physical symptoms of addiction. Other physical symptoms include decreased energy and ability to focus. Addiction can also cause problems with blood pressure, heart rate and memory.

3. Emotional: People who suffer from addiction often feel withdrawn from life. They lose interest in hobbies and activities they once found enjoyable and disconnect from friends and family. Feelings of sadness, loneliness and desperation are common.

Effects of Addictions:

1. People who abuse substances or perform compulsive behaviour may be able to function at work or school for a while, but their performance eventually suffers as their addiction progresses.

2. Whether it’s buying drugs, gambling or compulsively shopping, addicts almost always run out of money. An inability to earn a reliable income may force them into crime or bankruptcy.

3. Addicts often exhibit high-risk behaviour. They may steal to support their addiction, contract diseases by injecting drugs with shared needles or get into accidents while under the influence of drugs.

4. A person suffering from addiction loses track of personal goals and ambitions. Their behaviour eventually causes pain and suffering among friends and family.

If you are suffering from any addictions pray with me.

"God I thank you for my life I thank you because I was born for a purpose to live for you. I pray that you may forgive me of my sins and restore my health and life.

Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not be mastered by anything including drugs, alcohol and any kind of addiction.

Lord today heal and deliver my body, my mind, my spirit, my life. Drugs are a part of my past; they are not part of my now, they are not part of my future. I declare that I am clean and I free because Jesus came to set the captives free."

Amen!
